Eso es lo principal en una oración de este tipo. Si deseas agregale un complemento.
Recuerda que WAS va con I, HE, SHE o IT; y que el WERE se usa con THEY, WE, YOU. Ejm:

-I WAS DOING my homework yesterday afternoon. (Yo estaba haciendo my tarea ayer en la tarde).
-HE WAS WORKING last weekend. (Él estaba trabajando la semana pasada).
-I WAS SLEEPING, when the alarm clock rang. (Yo estaba durmiendo cuando el despertador sonó).
-YOU WERE SINGING an English song. (Tú estabas cantando una canción en inglés).
-WE WERE WATCHING a movie. (Nosotros estábamos viendo una película).
-My sister WAS PLAYING with her friends. (Mi hermana estaba jugando con sus amigas).
